Labuschagne Dropped from Australia's ODI Squad to Face Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-game ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected call-up.

Recent Form Result in Omission

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international side after scoring just one run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a top score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a Test return as Australia look for a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Returns and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-match series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to seal a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
