Federal investigators announced that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing ignited and an engine separated just after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the jet to plummet and erupt into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is investigating the jet’s service record, that was in Texas for repairs several weeks before the crash.

Flight tracking information indicated the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from 3 September to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was present in San Antonio,” remarked an investigator on the following day, without a specific time frame. “We will review each aspect of maintenance that was performed, from the repair time, all the way to the date of the journey.”

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were retrieved, and the motor was found on the airfield.

The units – referred to as data containers – were designed to endure collision damage and intense temperatures from fires, and they looked to be intact when found among the crash debris. Investigators will examining information from the black boxes.

The plane’s last flight details displayed an altitude of 475 feet and a velocity of that speed before the crash.

Maintenance Record

Per aviation authority documents from last month, a fracture on a component within the fuel container demanded repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which indicated it supplies aircraft servicing for UPS’s aircraft and manages a repair facility in that city, declined to speak, but said it would work closely when investigators approached it.

Services Continue

At the same time, the facility services restarted Wednesday night with its express or nighttime procedure, spokesperson a representative said. All three runways at the airport were likewise back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the company’s most significant. The hub employs in excess of a large number of workers in the region, handles 300 flights per day and organizes more than 400,000 items an hour.

A gathering was held on the night of that date by the area worker’s group, which represents staff at the Louisville airport, the firm’s primary freight center.

Worker representatives, which supports employees, began the memorial with a period of reflection at the evening hour, the approximate hour of the crash two days earlier.

“This incident was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the official told the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a opportunity to say goodbye to any one of those who we have mourned.”
